«Create a monitoring interface incorporating a large number of indicators»

Use Design assisted the Satelec/Lyonnaise des Eaux in the conception of a monitoring interface for handling the Ile-de-France waste water.

The monitoring console integrates different indicators for centralized technical management in the IdF region. It plays a role in the new water management.

Among other things, the interface allows to make predictions and run simulations based on the performed actions.

The project aimed at conceiving an interface that:
- allowed the user to know exactly when s/he was handing an actual situation, a prediction or a simulation based on the results of the performed actions;
- provide a vision with different levels of detail (from a general dashboard to a detailed station plan).

An essential activity in this project was to identify, prioritize and group the numerous indicators, allowing the user to view them when necessary.

The indicators themselves were represented as visually as possible, to facilitate immediate recognition. Furthermore an important effort was dedicated to defining the color codes (inspired by aeronautics domain) and station layouts. Those are meant to help the users find their way even in the sectors with which they were are not familiar.
