«Elaborate a four-screens monitoring station»

Use Design assisted SEMERU in the conception of a monitoring interface for the Ile-de-France tunnels.

This project consisted of elaborating a four-screens monitoring interface. Three of them (Incident Log, Map View and Diagram View) needed to be optimized in terms of usability and visual design.

Use Design worked together with the project management and project contractor’s teams to optimally employ the technology proposed for this project.

In the project context the main questions concerned the four-screens usage:
- which screens need to attract the user’s attention?
- how to relate and link the information in different screens?
- how to optimize the mouse usage?

For each of the screens we needed to focus on the tasks and key problems:
- how to link the incidents in the Log and the action plans?
- how to follow the action plan execution in an efficient way?
- which information should appear in the Map view to asses the situation in one glance?
- which visualization to choose for the numerous indicators in the Diagram View?

These issues were treated in an iterative process, during which we reviewed each proposal together with the project management team and the project contractor’s team.
